| Home | Newtown (Powys) U3A was formed in the summer of 1996 and the poetry reading group came together in the autumn of that year. The group consists of five readers who meet once a month. Readings have a thematic structure in which twelve titles are presented for each year's reading. The Group has continued its monthly poetry readings under a variety of themes e.g.Non-British poets, Gardens, Chjaracters, Railways, Magic and Mysticism ansd Birds. The members read their own selection of poems to suit each monthly theme and each member in turn introduces a biography ( or autobiography) of a poet of their choice Each month we have also started listening to a CD of a poet readiing one or two of their own poems, a useful means of bringing each poet and their work 'to life' |
